Claire Thompson
Home Cook & Recipe Creator
Claire Thompson grew up in the modest kitchen of a 1970s duplex in Dayton, Ohio, where the scent of simmering tomato sauce was as constant as the hum of the old refrigerator. Her mother, a former schoolteacher turned home‑cooking champion, taught her that a good meal was less about exotic ingredients and more about timing, patience, and the stories that lingered on the plate. Claire recalls the nightly ritual of kneading dough together on the kitchen table, the flour dusting their elbows like a shared secret, a habit that still informs the tactile care she brings to every recipe.
After a brief stint in corporate finance, Claire left the spreadsheet world for the culinary one, enrolling in a community college program that emphasized classic American comfort food. It was there she discovered the power of “food memory” – the ability of a simple chicken pot pie or a well‑seasoned mac & cheese to transport a family back to a Sunday afternoon in the backyard, the clatter of cutlery punctuated by laughter. This epiphany shaped her belief that cooking is a form of storytelling, each dish a chapter that can comfort, connect, and revive forgotten moments.
Today, as the founder of Dishcall, Claire curates more than 200 original recipes that blend nostalgia with a dash of modern flair. She says the engine that drives her is the desire to make “the kitchen a place where anyone, regardless of skill, can feel like the head of a household.” Whether she’s perfecting a sous‑vide short rib or reviving a grandma’s secret casserole, her mission remains the same: to turn everyday meals into lasting memories.
I believe food should be honest and unpretentious—if a dish can't stand on its own without garnish, it's not worth serving, and the best meals are those that feed the soul as much as the stomach.
